HANDLEY, Joseph 17/809 L Cpl 17th Btn Northumberland Fusiliers.
Yarm1914 believe that Joseph was born in 1891 the 9th child of Mrs Elizabeth Handley and Mr William Handley married in 1872. His father was a stome mason and the family lived in Church Houses, Farndale, Kirkbymoorside. The family was completed with the birth of a younger brother Albert born in 1893.His father died on 21st January 1905. In 1911 Elizabeth was living in the house with three of her sons, Frederick a builder, Joseph and Albert both stone masons. Albert joined the 2nd Yorkshire Hussars (Alexandra, Princes of Wales' Own) in Loftus, pte 36073, and died on 5th January 1918.
